[handwritten] Dear Kate, I hope some people from the Women's Center can come --Liz
 Dear Sisters,
Because we want to reach women who are ignored by traditional
recruiting efforts, we are holding "Women's Law Day,“ on
Saturday, December 4th from 12:30 to 4:00 P.M. We plan to
have a panel of women lawyers and law professors who are
serving women in many different legal capacities. Then
there will be small group discussions with women law students
from all the metropolitan area law schools.
Contrary to what you may have heard, studying and practicing
law need not be an alienating and elitist experience. We
feel strongly that the law has never been presented to women
as a real possibility for their life's work. There is an
alternative to being a full-time housewife and mother.
Women should consider that legal work can be used to further
the womens' movement and at the same further their personal
 goals and development as individuals.
We have found from our experience that it really makes a
difference that more and more women are in law school and
ultimately practicing lawyers. Women as a group can human-
ize the law and legal institutions but we cannot do it when
we are only 3% of the nations lawyers. We want all law
schools to have at least 51% women as students, faculty, and
We urge you to tell all the women you know, whether in school
or out about "Women's Law Day" and encourage as many as pos-
sible to come. Please post and distribute the enclosed flyers.
Tell anyone who cannot make it to write for informatipn and
applications to the Law School Admissions Offices of New York
University, Columbia, Brooklyn, Fordham, St. John's, Rutgers
and other out of town law schools.
Thank you. We hope to see you on Saturday, December 4th at
New York University Law School -- Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington
Square South. If you have any questions call June 431-3337,
 Ellen 431-3484 or Liz 691-4165.
