The event is in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Barnard Center for Research on Women, and in honor of this important anniversary for Barnard and its commitment to women's advancement, we are planning a conference that should have national importance for women. Since the original letter was not received or has been misplaced, I am attaching a copy; it explains the concept of the conference, and your possible participation in it. A number of prominent women have already responded positively. Among them are Anna Quindlen, Pulitzer Prize—winning New York Times columnist, who will deliver the closing remarks of the day. Others planning to attend include Faye Wattleton; Marie Wilson, Director of the Ms. Foundation; Representative Marge Roukema; the Honorable Carry Saxon Perry, Mayor of Hartford, Connecticut; Dr. Margaret Hamburg, Commissioner of the New York City Health Department; Julia Scott of the National Black Women's Health Project; Ruth Messinger, Manhattan Borough President; Prof. Ruth Mandel of the Center for American Women and Politics, Rutgers University; Alexis Gelber of Newsweek magazine; Dr. Kathleen Francovic of CBS News; Prof. Catharine R. Stimpson; and the Honorable Betty Ellerin. I I will give your office a call in the near future to see if I may answer any questions, and to get your response. Or, I may be reached at (212) 854-2067.
