Deer Professor Melnsn:

On Tuesday, January llth, at 8:00 pm... in the Bernard gymnasium. the Barnard women's Center is sponsoring e panel on that vexed subject: nsle chsuviniss st Colusbla, asking if it exists; and if it does. what it means and what might be done about it. we

are asking six distinguished Columbia us to be on the pensl. President Hccill has generously consented to be a number, and we would very uwcb sppreciste it if you, too, could participate. The panel will. as for as we know, be the first on which colusbis use have publicly addressed themselves to the question.

The panel will be moderated by a women, probably one from the city, but not Colonials. Each man will be asked to speak for five to

ten minutes and then to take questions from the floor. I expect that the questions will be for-ranging and provocative. ‘the purpose of the panel is to try to discover whet reel content the words "male chauvinisu” may or may not have within the University.

The audience will consist mostly of nsnbsrs of the university cousunity. we sre charging a smell admissions fee for the benefit of the Bernard Lawyers’ Committee. a group of Bernard alumnae in the legal profession who have consented to serve as a legal referral service for women.

A panphlet about the center is enclosed for your information. If you have any questions, I shell be glad to try to never then. The

Center's phone is 280-2067. I very much hope you will be oils to join as.
