Roster 11 October 1971

Attsohsd is a report on the interest in sud scum on rosters in tho various disctpltnazfy associations.

I was not able to touch an of tho associations on tho list. However. the response I rocstvod from those I did reach is quite uniform. They all recognise 3 insodtats used for s nations). and exhaustive roster of season soholsrs which could be called upon {or sosdsuto saployusnt, continue work. speakers, etc., as well as for statistical purposos.

I think the possibility of applying for B!!! funds to support part of the dovslopunt of tho roster is worth looking into. I has rscsivsd s copy of the Association of Women in Science lletvllotter and call you: attention to pogo thus "YAIH RARDIIIG mascara" on choir efforts for

s roster.

I have reached the following people and have gotten the tollouiug reactions:

lnerican Psychological Association ‘task Force on the status of women 9:. Helen I. Aatia

University Research corporation 4301 Connecticut Avenue, N Uaehington 0.0. 20008 202-246-9210

she has sent ou,§§%i,g%e-page cues ionnaire to ocean nesbera of the AM asking for desree and date, a d’°’o£ specie ieatioo, aodioaapetancies. she plans to key punch the results and put these on tape and deveeop rosters by field, degree, and competency. Interested in and willing to contribute to a national roster of

women scholars.

Mil has made a proposal to H!!! to prepare an extensive and expensive ($300-500,000) roster of wonea scholars in the sciences and in other fields it they get the grant.

In the aheenoe ot action by Eli they have son ahead and prepared a "poor man's (woman's) registry" by gleaming the naees of women from Amie» I'll OF SCIEIICE‘ (next issue to be Alfllcafl lull Am Home 0? scmtcz). they estimate that they will get 9,000 wanna‘: names from that source, and expect to be able to retrieve information. primarily in the biological sciences because that is where (115354 is greatest, in a very few weeks. She will try to get permission to send us a copy or their proposal to HIV.

Pool believes that there should be a central effort to create a national roster in

all oi the disciplines and suggested that new funds night he aouflat to augment funds put up by the seven sisters. She felt that mm was the most logical source of hands since they are administering fiderel contract compliance and that H!!! ahould bear some of the financial responsibility for creating a roster which would enable the ioiveraities to comply with the federal requirement.

tool reported that the National Science Foundation has an extensive roster which is confidential and used for statistical purposes only. They are preparing an update

this year but plan to drop the roster afterwards for lack oi’ funds. She thought

it might be productive, it the seven Sisters do decide to do a ‘roster, to contact

us? and try to take ole: their roster and aontwt the people on it for their permission to release the information in it.

‘mere is also a computerised roeter of all 10's, retrievable under 68 subdivisions. which was very inexpensive to set up (M00) because the basic information was collected for mailing lists used by shes-flaraaceutical industry.

the will send us a copy of Afll'e first nevsletter.
