NEW YORK, N.Y., Apr. l9--Barnard College's Womenfs Center will
hold the sixth Scholar and Feminist Conference on Sat., Apr. 2l,
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year's topic, The Future of Difference, an exploration
of the way sexual identity and difference is defined, will draw
more than 600 people to the campus of Barnard College, ll6th St.
and Broadway, for the one—day conference.

Monique wittig, well—known French author, will be one of the
morning keynote speakers. Ms. wittig, whose novel 0POPONAX received
France's prestigious Prix Medicis literary prize, will talk about
the "Straight Mind,” at 9:30 a.m. Other morning speakers will
include Nancy Chodorow, University of California, Santa Cruz,
"Difference, Relation, and Gender in Psychoanalytic Perspectiveg”
Josette Feral, University of Toronto, "Powers of Difference.”

Authors Elizabeth Janeway, Carolyn Heilbrun, and Ruth Messinger,
New York City Council member, will lead workshops at 2:45 p.m., on
topics to include women and power, androgeny and the psychology of
sex differences, and women and politics. Other topics will include
black women and feminism, mother—daughter relationships, and the
feminist answer to the socio—biological debate.

These l5 afternoon workshops will be held after a noon break
for lunch and panel discussion from l:l5 to 2:30, on “Language and
