Dear Professor Iisssislis: Ha. Laurie Auchincloss has suggested that I write to you.

On Tuesday, January 11th, at 8:00 12.11., in the Bernard gymnasium,

the Bernard 'vJonen'a Center isapponsoring a panel onvthst vexed subject:

Mala chauviniae at Columbia. asking if it exists; and if it does, what

it means and what night he done about it. We are asking several die- tinguished Columbia men to be on the panel. President uccill has generously consented to be a number. end we would very much appreciate it if you,

too, could participate. The pael will, as far as we know, is the first

on which Columbia men have publicly addressed themselves to the question.

The pmel will be moderated by two women, Professor Elaine Showalter of Douglass college and Professor Ann Harris of Hunter college. Each nan

will be asked to speak for five to ten ninutea and then to take questions from the floor. I expect that the questions will be far-ranging and provodative. The purpose of the panel is to try to discover what real content the words "male chauvinien“ may or may not have within the University.

The audience will consist mostly of Ienbers of the university couannity. we are charging a swell admission fee for the benefit of the Bernard Lawyers’ Committee, a group of Barnard alumnae in the legal profession who have consented to serve as a legal referral service for tween.

A pmphlet about the Center is enclosed for you information. If you have any questions, I shall be glad to try to snare: than. The center‘: phone is 280-2067.. I very much hope you will be able to join us.
