TEACHERS OF COURSES ON WOMEN AND THE LAW

TQ
FR°M¥ MARY WEXFORD SCOTTI, ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATOR, WOMEN'S CENTER
BARNARD LAWYERS'COMITTEE AND
SUBJECT HANDBOOK ON LEGAL STATUS OF WOMEN DATE 21 DECEMBER 1971

The Barnard College Women's Center is in the process of establishing a
Lawyers‘ Committee. The Comittee will, at first, take case referrals
in the area of sex discrimination in employment. This service will be
available to any woman who contacts us, regardless of her affiliation
with Barnard or Columbia. We expect that most of our cases will be in
the New York City area, but we will occasionally have cases in other
areas in the country. If you are an attorney or know a woman attorney
who would be interested in being a member of the women's Center Lawyers’
Committee and in taking case referrals in your area, please fill out the
enclosed questionnaire. Please pass the extra copies on to anyone else
who might be interested.

also plans to compile a Handbook on the Legal Status of

of the fifty states. To this end, we need to have attorneys,
and law researchers in each of the fifty states, who would
be interested in doing research in this area. We have in mind a rather
comprehensive survey of the legal situation in each state; we want the
book to provide legal information to women who would not ordinarily have
access to it in areas of employment, tax law, family law, financial
obligation, contracts, etc. If you or anyone you know would be interested
in helping us with this research, or if your class in Women and the Law
would like to do a project involving some aspects of such research please
let me know, by filling out a questionnaire indicating interest in the
handbook.
