Show moreScrapbook of Barnard College alum Dorothy Oak documenting Oak's pre-Barnard time at Miss Mary Schoonmaker’s School for Girls in 1913 through her time as a student at Barnard until 1920. Oak graduated from Barnard in 1918. It consists of invitations and event programs, dance cards, newspaper clippings of articles related to Barnard and Columbia, correspondence, and photographs. Many news clippings are related to Barnard, Columbia, and Dartmouth College involvement in the World War I war effort. Also notable are the inclusion of information about the Farmerettes, women who worked on farms to take the place of male farm hands who had gone to war, and content related to evangelist Billy Sunday. Due to brittle and deteriorating paper, the scrapbook was disassembled to preserve individual items organized by page. Many of the original scrapbook pages are no longer intact.
